MOVING FORWARD: Moir, who's married and has a two-year-old daughter, recently congratulated Virtue on her engagement to Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly. Once in a while, he admits he will press her for some inside info on his favourite team. His skaters want to hear stories about Virtue, too.

And so, catching up with Virtue again, five years after she said goodbye to Olympic skating — we learn that she has combined her high-performance sport experience, a masters in applied psychology, and an MBA, to build a unique business advisory role for herself at financial services giant Deloitte.

On 17 September 2019, Virtue, 30, and Moir, 32, announced in a video that they were retiring from competition. “After 22 years, it feels like the right time to step away from the sport,” Virtue said. “This is so personal and emotional for both of us. We're just so grateful.
