She is considered by many to be the defender of the oceans and planets. Katsuko studied CO2 levels in seawater and developed the first method for measuring CO2 using temperature, pH, and chloride levels, called Saruhashi's Table. Saruhashi also studied the nuclear contamination of oceans.
