In 2022, Brie starred in and co-wrote the dark comedy film Spin Me Round with frequent collaborator and director Jeff Baena; it was released in select theatres by IFC Films and streamed on AMC+ . She also starred in an episode of the Apple TV+ anthology TV series ROAR, "The Woman Who Solved Her Own Murder".

They got married in 2017, and have been collaborating on projects and supporting each other's careers ever since. In 2017, the power couple costarred in both The Little Hours and The Disaster Artist. Then, in 2020, Franco made his directorial debut with the horror film The Rental, starring Brie.

Alison Brie was born in Hollywood, California, to Joanne (Brenner), who worked at a non-profit child care agency, and Charles Terry Schermerhorn, a musician and entertainment reporter. Her mother is Jewish and her father has Scottish, Dutch, English, German, and Norwegian ancestry.
